Introduction Tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) is a proven treatment for ischemic strokes when administered within 3-4.5 hours of symptoms. Relative contraindications include minor or spontaneously-improving stroke, seizure at onset, recent gastrointestinal and urinary tract hemorrhage, pregnancy, recent major surgery or serious trauma [ 1 ].
